Did you Forget to Eat Lunch?

Thursday, September 24th, 2015

Year planningDepending on the type of person you are, you may find the only way to accomplish anything in a day is to use a calendar and plan your day out to the minute. While that doesn’t work for everyone, there are a lot of people that must do it this way or they won’t reach success.

If you are this way or you have in-person, phone calls, or trainings you put on in a day, the only way to make sure you remember what you have to do is put it on a calendar. You can use an online calendar like Google Calendar or you can use a paper calendar that sits in front of you on your desk.

Planning your day like a doctor does with patience’s will work and you’ll be less likely to forget something you have to do on any given day. One thing that’s important to include in your calendar is breaks. If you must take a break during mid-morning and mid-afternoon to clear your head so you can continue to focus, it’s a good idea to schedule them so you don’t book yourself solid from start to finish.

Here are a few things to consider adding to your calendar each day.

1. Coffee Break
2. Lunch Break
3. Exercise Time
4. Email Time
5. Writing Time
6. Family Time

As you can see from this short list, there are a number of things you may need to get in during a day. Adding these to your calendar doesn’t mean you are a terrible and forgetful person, it just means you’re very busy and want to be organized, prepared, and successful.

Don’t be afraid or feel stupid to schedule your day like a doctor. It’s better to do what you need to do so you have time to eat lunch or exercise than it is to overbook yourself and forget to do something important.

WAHM Life: Don’t Let Change Ruin Your To-do List and Your Day!

Wednesday, September 16th, 2015

Stressed Woman ImageTime is something we all struggle with at one time or another. Things take longer than expected, things don’t go the way we thought they would, or we struggle with things because of our knowledge or know-how.

No matter what it is you’re doing and how hard you plan, time can be your worst enemy. Things always change or something comes up and plans change. I ran into this particular situation yesterday and while I was frustrated at first, things worked out and everything was fine. That’s one thing that always gets to me. I worry that if my plans change things won’t work out the way they should. I get frustrated and stress over the rest of what needs to be done and I truly hate that.

You can plan all you want, but things change and the best thing to do is go with the flow. Change your plans accordingly and get back to doing what you’re doing. Use a calendar and a timer and work your to-do list with the new changes in the pot. You’ll find when you do you’ll still accomplish your tasks, even if that means you have to move some tasks from today to tomorrow or next week.

Just remember one thing, don’t let change ruin your day. If you do, you’ll find you won’t get anything done and that will make matters even worse. Just work through the changes and continue to work your to-do list.

Everything will work out if you let it!

Sunday, March 24th, 2013

Often times when a mama tries to successfully work from home, time management is one thing she struggles with the most. It seems like even though you have six or eight hours to yourself, the time slips away and before you know it the kids are home and it’s time to do homework and get dinner started. Don’t let time management cause your business to fail.

If you find you struggle with time management, you need to sit down and figure out what the cause is so you can eliminate it or work around it. There are many things that may cause you to struggle with your time each day. They could include laundry, cleaning your home, watching television, checking email, social networking, and chatting on the phone or messenger. Don’t let these things cause distractions for you.

Household chores can cause more problems for mama’s trying to work at home than anything else. If you feel your home must be clean at all times, this may be one of the hardest things for you to handle. The best solution is to pick up things after you use them and continually remind your family to do the same. You can take a few minutes at the end of the day and make sure everything is picked up and then spend a few hours on Saturday cleaning the house. When you always pick things up your house will stay clean. This will help you to spend more time working your business and less time cleaning.

The television is another problem for mama’s that work at home. You may tell yourself you’re only going to watch one show. Whether it’s 30 minutes or an hour, it can take over in a short amount of time. No matter if you set an alarm or not it can take over, so it’s best to not even do it. If there is a show you really want to watch, consider recording it so you can watch it later. This will give you the ability to watch what you want, but get your work done first.

As you can see there are many distractions that have the ability to take over your day, but with a little self-control you’ll have the ability to take your day back. You’ll be able to get your work done and have success. You’ll find scheduling these things after your work day is over will give you something to look forward to each day and you’ll be able to have a successful day at home.
