Christian children’s author says the best way to make Bible real to kids is to meet them on their own level

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

New Christian novel draws criticism for using fantasy characters to teach biblical truths.

Calgary AB, September 24, 2007 – A new Christian children’s writer has valuable advice for parents who want to make biblical truths and overseas missions relevant to their children.

“We need to meet our children where they are in their lives right now,” says Ruth Willms, author of the recently published The Lion Tree. “After all, that’s what our heavenly Father did for us. He met us in our human form by sending us Jesus in human form.”

The novel teaches modern-day lessons from the Bible stories of Job, Jonah and the Whale, and Brave Queen Esther, but has drawn criticism because it uses fantasy characters to teach Bible truths. Critics worry that children may not be able to distinguish between the fantasy in the book and the biblical message the characters convey.

Willms disagrees. “I used fantasy in the novel because all of us, not only kids, are fascinated by the supernatural,” she says. “The book’s main characters don’t solve problems with magical powers or the power of positive thinking. They depend on the power of God’s love. They face real-life challenges and find real-life answers that work for all kids.”

Set in British Columbia’s beautiful Fraser Valley where Willms grew up, The Lion Tree touches on current events and missions in both Haiti and Afghanistan. Vivid descriptions of Haitian life and the book’s emphasis on overseas missions reflect Willms’ own experiences from a short mission trip to Haiti several years ago.

Willms inherited her love for reading and storytelling from her father, an enthusiastic storyteller who wrote for periodicals and magazines. She studied with The Institute of Children’s Literature but put her dream of authoring a book on hold while she raised her own children and helped manage the family business.

The Lion Tree began as a bedtime story Willms told to her grandchildren, Darian and Cassidy, after whom the novel’s main characters are named.

Keller Media Helps Authors Prepare To Celebrate September Holiday

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

Malibu, CA ‚Äì Did you know that according to the Chase Calendar September is the “Be Kind To Editors & Writers Month”? Malibu literary agent, Wendy Keller, offers writers the information they need to get published so they can celebrate the holiday while working on making their publishing dreams come true.

More than 187,000 new books will be published in the US this year, according to the Book Industry Study Group. “Will one of them be yours?” asks Malibu literary agent Wendy Keller, senior agent at Keller Media, Inc. “I’ve never met a person who doesn’t want to get a book published,” she said.

Keller, whose company specializes in nonfiction books intended for adults, has reduced more than 18 years of experience and just over 550 books sold worldwide to a compelling formula. Keller offers writers the tools to create a winning book proposal that has the five critical elements covered. Miss one of these elements and your book proposal can end up in the recycle pile.

“Once people understand the Lego-like process of building a proposal, they see their dream coming true. It’s a matter of knowing what to put where and when, add a dash of passion to some great content, and there you have it.”
says Keller.

Keller’s client list includes best sellers like Jack Canfield, co-author of Chicken Soup for the Soul, Richard Brodie (the guy who invented Microsoft Word), top level professional speakers like Jim Cathcart and Dr. Nate Booth, leaders of industry, and media darlings like Char Margolis and Col. Randall Larsen. As an example, Keller says, Jack Canfield had the Chicken Soup for the Soul book proposal rejected dozens of times before finding a willing publisher. Had Canfield known about the five critical elements of a book proposal he might have been published and enjoying celebrity status years earlier.

Keller has the experience, knows what she‚Äôs talking about and a dream to help more would be authors climb the best seller lists. To make this possible and affordable, Keller Media offers a beginning author live seminar and the popular “Wendy Keller’s Simple, Step-By-Step Six CD Program for Getting Your Nonfiction Book Proposal Written & Sold For Maximum Money” that explains and leads people through the process of creating those ‚Äúfive critical elements‚Äù of a salable book proposal. Aspiring authors may erase the learning curve by visiting http://www.KellerMedia.com.

Wendy Keller is available for radio, television and print interviews during the “Be Kind To Editors & Writers Month” and ongoing throughout the year.

July 25, 2007 (Calgary, AB) – Work-at-home-moms learn to write articles that create traffic and other business information in free live Pro-Series call.

Denise Willms, co-owner of WAHM-Articles.com, joins the Smart Moms Professional Series Summer Edition to show work-at-home-moms (WAHMs) how to gain more website traffic by writing and submitting online articles.

Every website owner wants more visitors for his or her website, but when you’re a mom with a home-based business, how can you compete with larger companies and bigger budgets? According to Willms, article marketing – writing and submitting articles about your area of expertise – can level the playing field and bring massive amounts of pre-qualified traffic to your website, with no financial outlay.

“Website owners talk about wanting more traffic for our websites, but we specifically want visitors who are interested in our product or service, who will actually read the information on our website, and will take action in a way that profits the website owner,” Willms says. “Done correctly, that is exactly the kind of traffic that article marketing creates, and it can create lots of it.”

Willms, along with other professional work-at-home-moms, is sharing her expertise in the Smart Moms Professional Series Summer Edition hosted by SmartMoms-SmartBusiness.com. Topics in the six-week series include:

- “Simple Strategies to Effectively Work From Home” by Suzy Strempke

- “Finding Your Niche: Work-at-Home Options” by Lori K. Long, Ph.D.

- “Using a Blog to Increase Traffic” by Suzanne Wells

- “Organizing Your Business” by Melissa Hilmerson

- “Simple Search Engine Optimization” by Anita Frank

Beginning July 19 and running weekly, the entire series is free the night of the live broadcast with a limited recorded message available. The broadcast will last 15-20 minutes beginning at 9:00 pm EST each Thursday night. Handouts are also included.

A supporter of the online WAHM community, Willms is the author of Uncovering the Secrets of WAHM Article Marketing, a free e-book that teaches work-at-home-moms how to harness the power of article marketing to grow their online or offline businesses.

MOM2MOM Lounge Magazine Puts the Spotlight on Mompreneurs!

June issue to feature Stroller Strides’, Lisa Druxman
July issue to feature Signing Times’, Rachel Coleman

Mom2Mom Lounge, the online magazine written for moms, by moms continues its’ goal of inspiring and empowering moms everywhere. While the site offers readers the chance to enjoy a variety of mom-relevant subject matter, it also goes beyond by celebrating successful mompreneurs everywhere.

Each month, the magazine’s On the Job section, profiles a successful mompreneur. “Sometimes as moms we feel as though we are limited in what we can accomplish or that we have to put our dreams on hold in order to achieve success, says founder Elizabeth Munro. In other cases, we may be faced with adversity and feel unable to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and that’s what our Mompreneur profiles are all about.” We want moms to relate and say “Hey, that could be me!” “Or wow, if she can do it, I can do it too!”

Fellow founder, Barbara Ryan is quick to add: “Our Mompreneur profiles are the ideal vehicle through which to accomplish this. It’s about real moms talking to real moms and demonstrating that nothing is impossible”.

The month of June will feature Lisa Druxman, founder of Stroller Strides; the mom & baby fitness craze that is sweeping the nation.

While the month of July focuses on the incredible story of Rachel Coleman, founder of Signing Times: Rachel has taken sign language mainstream, providing both kids and pre-verbal infants a whole new outlet of expression.

In addition, the magazine is pleased to offer its newsletter subscribers the chance to win a DVD set of Signing Times for their family.

Mentoring Stories: Mother to Mother

The Mommy Mentor mission is to create a compilation book born from the very essence of women’s souls. Mommy Mentor invites everyone to contribute to this incredible book (working title), “Mommy Mentors: Older Moms to Younger Moms,” by sharing cherished experiences (both positive and negative), special memories and words of wisdom, in so doing, women will have the opportunity to impart their wisdom to other women all around the world.

Ft. Lauderdale, FL May 30, 2007 — Mommy Mentors, an organization and online community, devoted to “Women Helping Women” has embarked on an exciting new mission, one that will touch every woman’s life in an inspiring way. It is a mission to create a compilation book born from the very essence of our souls. For our book (working title), “Mommy Mentors: Older Moms to Younger Moms,” the authors are asking women to share their personal experiences courageously, boldly and without fear.

MommyMentors.com believes that every woman has something special to impart; something that makes them a unique gift to the world. Our objective is to have women from every walk of life, all with vastly different, yet equally insightful life experiences, to write to us in order to share their knowledge, strengths and aspirations. Your stories may express many things: Pride, fear, enthusiasm, love, and overcoming defeat…in essence; stories from the heart.

Personal letters are by their very nature, intensely emotional, honest and heartfelt records of our common humanity. This is what The Mommy Mentor Project seeks: Letters from you, relating your life’s struggles, dramas, joys and sorrows. Share your cherished experiences (both positive and negative), your special memories, and in so doing, impart your wisdom to other women around the world.

Mommy Mentors will be publishing stories in our much anticipated book, “Mommy Mentors: Older Moms to Younger Moms,” making them accessible to women around the world, as a resource for inspiration, information and renewed hope. This is your chance to touch the lives of women everywhere, thereby unifying and strengthening all women and yourself.

Sharing is a very powerful. It creates Unity & Strength: Strength brings Courage and Courage fosters Faith, Hope and Charity. Building a coalition of all three is the vital mission of Mommy Mentors.

Barbara Theodosiou, the founder of Mommy Mentors, has dreamt of creating this resource for women for many years. She knows that this project goes way beyond statistics or self-help. This project has the power to truly change women’s lives and that’s why we encourage you to participate. We know that to give is to get and when you share a part of yourself to benefit someone else you get back what was given ten-fold.
