Saturday, December 29th, 2012Blogging For Direct Sales Business
Sunday, November 18th, 2012There is no doubt about it – we are living through a recession. Unemployment is high and the economy continues to sputter along. Though home party sales remain strong, the industry is not immune to the effects of the recession. However, there are some essential tips for sales consultants who want to stay one step ahead of the struggling economy and keep their home party plan business going strong throughout the year.
Direct Sales Conultants Should Blog
When you mention to some direct sales consultants that they should start a blog, they cringe in horror at the thought of writing. No one who wants to promote a business should be afraid of blogging. Embrace it and it will love you back! Blogging is a great marketing and promotional tool; it should be an integral part of your direct sales business marketing plan.
Though blogging may seem difficult at first, once you give it a chance, you realize how easy it really is. Blogging is just an expression of who you are and what your business entails. You have probably spent many hours talking about your business; blogging is just turning those conversations or presentations into words on a page.
How To Pick Your Blog Topic
* Teach others about your products.
* Teach others about the direct sales business.
* Write about your successes and failures in the business.
* Write about how you started out.
* Describe what goes on at a sales party.
* Discuss the details of giving a presentation.
Blogging is usually very simple and straightforward writing. If you can add some humor or interesting stories, that will make your blog much more enjoyable to the readers. If you think of blogs as merely one-way conversations written down, it will be easier to write one.

Guest Post – 5 Ways to Create Blog Content Quickly When You’re Crunched for Time
Monday, November 12th, 2012In a time crunch but need to get a new blog post out? Try one of these quick ideas.
1. Share a video
YouTube and TED Talks are both great sources for finding videos to share on your blog. Choose a topic your readers are interested in, then search by keyword and see what videos come up.
Add a few of your own thoughts on the topic and a question to get discussion going.
2. Write a quick review
Read a great business book recently? Discovered a helpful blog? Downloaded a freebie that solved a problem for you? Write a post pointing your readers to that resource.
A review can be simple – introduce the book/blog/freebie, share a couple of reasons you found it useful or a few tips you learned from it, and link your readers to where they can grab a copy.
3. Reprint an article
Directories like www.WAHM-Articles.com contain thousands of articles you can legally share on your blog. Add an introductory paragraph explaining why you’re sharing the particular article you chose, followed by the article and author’s credit.
4. Check with products/programs you promote as an affiliate
Smart affiliate programs offer their affiliates a variety of promotional tools, often including articles or blog posts for reprint. Take a look at what products you’ve promoted, or love and would be willing to promote, and see what resources are available.
5. Repurpose your existing content
If you’ve been blogging a while, you can repurpose older content by:
• Updating an older article with current or additional information
• Creating a themed post where you link back to 4 or 5 related posts
• Turn a written post into an audio or video post

7 Steps to Keep Your WordPress Blog-Site More Secure
Saturday, September 22nd, 2012WordPress is a great way to build and manage a website. Like any online software though, there are steps you should take to secure your WordPress installation and keep it safe from hackers. Some are common sense for any website (secure website hosting and choosing a secure password) and others are specific to WordPress (such as the plugins recommended below). Here are seven steps to secure your WordPress website.
1) Pick a Good, Reliable, Secure Website Host
Where you choose to host your WordPress website can make a difference in your security. Two important things to look for are server security and backups for restore.
Choose a host who offers you php5 and runs it in suEXEC mode. With suEXEC you are able to lockdown your files more tightly. You can find more technical (very technical) details in Wikipedia.
Also look for a host who offers a reliable backup system and will restore your site for you free in the event of being hacked. Most hosts offer weekly and monthly backups at a minimum. Some hosts also do nightly backups and incremental hourly backups. I’m hosted on a server with monthly, weekly, nightly, and incremental backups. This means that if my site were to be hacked I could easily roll back to what it looked like 3 or 4 hours ago. I wouldn’t loose much, if any, of my content or other files.
2) Use Fantastico to Install Your Blog (or Change Your Admin Username)
If you install yourself with FTP and cPanel, you’ll have a default username of “admin” which is very easy to guess. By using Fantastico, you will be given the choice to pick a username and password that are unique. Plus, it’s easier than an install with FTP and cPanel. Either way, don’t use “admin” for the admin username. And don’t EVER use “password” for your password.

7 Sure-Fire Ways To Lose Blog Visitors and Subscribers
Thursday, August 23rd, 2012If you ever wondered why you’re losing blog visitors or you can’t get subscribers, these seven reasons are very high possibilities you’re doing something extremely wrong.
1. Too Many Posts
Posting too much in one day or in a week is overkill and it’s too hard for your
subscribers to keep up with what’s new. Instead spread out your posts and give them the exposure they deserve. Allow people to read and absorb the information without pushing something new every minute.
2. Too Little Posts
Infrequent blog posts make you look like you don’t care about your visitors or subscribers or they aren’t worthy of your time. If you were blogging consistently and suddenly you stop people will automatically make assumptions you have abandoned your blog.
3. Non-Existent or Hidden RSS Feed
If you don’t make it easy for your visitors to find your subscribe or RSS feed button they are more likely to leave. Place your RSS icon in a visible spot either near the top of the page or at the end of each blog post.
4. Poor Quality Content
If your blog content is loaded with grammatical and spelling errors, it’s a major turnoff and if it offers nothing of value there’s no point for a visitor to come back or subscribe to your blog. Don’t waste people’s time. Write quality blog posts and give them something to think about. You have a blog for a reason and that reason should be to share with others your knowledge.
