Guest Post – Why I Work From Home – The Whole Truth And My Story

The work at home opportunities are boundless on the net today. So many legitimate ways to make money from home. The reasons why people choose a home office environment varies from person to person. Of course those reasons depend on the person’s responsibilities, lifestyles, and home-life situations. It depends on personality as well.

I love my short (16 step, yes I counted them) commute to my work at home office each morning. It took me awhile to get where I am today in the work at home industry; and all the while making a nice income to supplement my dear husband’s salary.

There are good reasons why I specifically chose to work at home.

This article will be quite personal and will be unveiling a few things about myself to my business associates. It may convey a few things about my personality that may surprise some of you, and for some, it may not.

Below will reveal why I don’t like working outside the home.

Bullying…Been There – Yes, I’ve been bullied. I know that I’m NOT the only one in this world that has been made fun of, picked on, and been humiliated among school mates. Alas, it sure felt like I was the only one (at the time). Consequently from this point on (during grade school), and thus throughout my whole life; I have been painfully shy and also never seemed to possess a good sense of self esteem. This followed me into highschool and my adult life, and as a result; depression has settled in. I can’t say for sure if being bullied was the sole reason for my depression. It also runs in my family, so it could be a combination of both.

Unfortunately, I’ve also discovered that bullying can happen online. I ask myself what does a person gain from being a bully? I guess a bullier gets a false sense of well-being and satisfaction by belittling others. I’m assuming it makes them feel good as a person inside?? If you ask me, it’s a very warped sense of well-being to treat others in this way. If bullying makes someone feel good inside, then there is something terribly wrong with (their self esteem).

Working With The Public – I’ve always had difficulty dealing and working with the public. This started (as I stated above), in my early childhood. I was always terrified about being around people. And to be honest here; I’m surprised I made friends with a small handful of kids from school. It’s rather difficult for me to get to know others…even to this day.

Previous Job – Floral Designer – Yes I can say proudly that I was a floral designer for 10 years. However I had a lot of help acquiring employment in this field. My Mother-In-Law had experience as a floral designer and decided to open her own floral and gift shop. The name of that shop was Anna’s Floral and Gifts. She opened it in the South County – St. Louis area.

Well I decided to help her out and in return, gain the floral designing experience myself. And that I did. She had her shop open for 5 years. I discovered I loved working with fresh and silk flowers both. At the end of those 5 years my Father-In-Law had a heart attack and she decided to sell out and take care of him. The other 5 years, I followed my Mother-In-Law to a floral shop for a job, and this one…a paying job. Yes, she helped me obtain that job. It helped me do my job knowing she was right there beside me. I know sad, but very true.

My Mother-In-Law decided to retire shortly after getting the job. However, I stayed there after getting to know the owner and my co-workers. It was shortly after that period that my Mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and I had to quit the job and take her back and forth to her treatments and doctor appointments. Unfortunately my Mom passed. However in between chemo therapy and many doctor appointments is when I decided to get serious with working from home.

I am proud to have the 10 years experience of floral designing, however I sure hope I don’t have to put the experience to use. I know I would have to start out at the bottom, and I certainly would not make as much as I do from working from home.

I guess while getting to know some of my school mates again through Facebook, all those feelings resurfaced and that’s why I decided to write this article.
