Link Building – Finding Link Worthy Sites

linkWhich sites for link building are link worthy? How do you go about looking for sites that you think would be useful for your visitors or users? And what makes a webmaster want to become a link partner with you?

These are all valid questions to answer for yourself before you set out to find websites that are worthy to be placed on your site.

What are link worthy sites?
Link worthy sites should be relevant to your niche. It should offer valuable information that you would find useful for your visitors. The more different the content, the better it will be as it’s harder to find unique content. Look for originality…perhaps the site offers a business tool or ebooks that aren’t found anywhere else.

Unique and relevant content isn’t the only criteria. Other things to look for:

- Is the site easy to navigate?
- How much traffic do they receive daily? (Check Alexa.com)
- What is their page rank?

Although page rank isn’t as important, it’s helpful to look for PR of 3 or higher, but don’t discount sites that have a lower PR. Why? Because if the site offers what you’re looking for and it meets your criteria, then it’s valuable to your users and you never know when its page rank can jump from 0 to 4.

How do you find reputable sites?
One way is to use the search engine to find sites within the same niche as you, but an easier way is through various networking sites like forums, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn and popular article directories. You can also look at your partner’s link directory page or link partners’ page and see who’s listed there. Again follow your criteria for which sites you deem as link worthy and don’t automatically assume because person A has a link exchange with them, it’s good enough for your site.

Why would webmasters exchange links with you?
Webmasters are constantly flooded every day with link exchange requests. Some take a while to reply, while others don’t even bother. Instead of using a canned request letter, take the time to thoroughly review the website you wish to link build with. I have received many requests that use the same link exchange template and I know they haven’t really looked around my site because we’re not in the same industry.

Explain how you think their site and your site will benefit. Take advantage at this time to offer another option to link building such as an article exchange.

Link building is an important process for any webmaster. It’s one way to get more exposure and to gain authority in search engines, but be sure you’re linking to reputable and trustworthy sites.
