Creative Ways to Beat Writer’s Block
Have you ever sat down to write your next article… and suddenly realized you can’t think of anything to say?
You may even have an outline in front of you, but you just can’t come up with the details to fill it in and make it sound just right.
If that sounds familiar, you’ve had a case of writer’s block. Whether you’re an experienced article writer, or just starting out, writer’s block can strike at any time. Worse, it can put a damper on your writing goals and deadlines.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been looking for ways to get more writing done in less time. One of the smartest things I’ve done so far is downloaded a copy of Writing Rituals by Nick Usborne. The five rituals he describes in his book have helped me to focus and beat my writer’s block.
Here are some more ideas of how you can get around writer’s block:
Talk to yourself. When I can‚Äôt find the words I’m looking for, sometimes it helps to just start talking out loud to myself about what I want to say in the article. When I get the words out, it makes it easier to think about my topic and what I want to say. You could write or type as you go so you don‚Äôt forget something really good.
You could also record yourself. Get one of those hand held recorders and just talk away. When you’re done, go back and transcribe what you said. This is another great way to get it all down and not lose any of the good stuff. Who knows, you may have more ideas pop in your head while you are transcribing.
Another strategy that works well is to brainstorm. Write down or type anything and everything that comes to mind regarding your topic. It doesn’t have to make sense at the time. Just put it down. When you do this other ideas may be triggered based on what you write down.
The next time you have trouble writing, try one of these tips, and see how quickly your writer’s block surrenders.
