Work At Home Tips: Income Tax Organization

Sunday, January 15th, 2012

Is it really that time of year again? Time goes by so fast, especially if you’ve been relatively busy with your home business within the past year.

There are so many things to remember when preparing your tax returns, as well as knowing exactly what is considered taxable. Let’s take a quick look at what may be taxable in your work at home situation.

Here are just a few that I’ve listed below:

1. Monthly Internet bill. I know this is the number one item on my list since I work at home and I have to use the Internet to make my income.

2. Monthly hosting bill if you own your own domain name. This is another important write off for your business, especially if you own several domains/websites and your hosting bill is considerably high.

3. Monthly phone bill. If you own a business and you use your phone to run your business, then yes, you need to write off your phone bill.

4. Business transportation mileage. If you use your automobile for business, such as home parties, this is another important taxable write off. Fuel prices has went up considerably. You need to keep careful track of all your transportation expenses (including gas receipts), and file anything and everything that you can.

5. Advertising expenses. Some people pay for advertising for promotion purposes and some do not. If you do pay for advertising, then you need to file these expenses on your taxes. Depending on the type of advertising, it may or may not be taxable, but it’s always safe to file all expenses.

Autoresponder Tips

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

Continually communicating with your market is the best way to always be in their mind. There are several ways to do this, such as blog posts, newsletters, and social networking. While those are great ways and they should be used often, there is yet another way you should always use and have in action all the time. That way is an autoresponder.

Autoresponders are automatically sent out as people subscribe to your list. You can write them on just about anything you want and they can be of any length you choose. You can charge for them or they can be free. You’ll need to take all of these things into consideration when you’re preparing to put your autoresponders together.

When you’re trying to come up with topics for your autoresponders it’s a good idea to think about your market and what they need and want. Always have them in your mind when you create these and only include information they’d need. When you do this they’ll want to subscribe and read what you have to say.

It’s a good idea to use a paid service for these so it’s easier to personalize them and make sure they go out when they’re supposed to. Autoresponders are a good way to provide quality information to your market while being in front of them regularly.

How to use Teleseminar’s with your Business

Sunday, November 13th, 2011

Teleseminars are a great way to grow your business and reach out to new people. They give you the ability to share information you wouldn’t be able to do otherwise.

Teleseminars are done over the phone and can include the internet if you feel the need. You can have people call in and you can send them documents to look through on the computer or printed out or you can rent a conference room that gives you the ability to share your desktop.

Deciding on the content for your teleseminar needs to be based on your business and the needs of your market. When you come up with your topic you need to write down what you intend to say on your call. No matter how well you know your topic, the nerves will arrive when you get on the phone and it’s possible the thoughts will run right out of your mind.

You’ll need to find a conference line that will accommodate the number of people you’re estimating to attend. These lines can be free or paid, so you’ll want to check into both so you know which option you need to go with. If you decide to use a conference room, you’ll need to check on those as well. There are paid and free versions here as well.

Teleseminars can be a great way to share information with people all over the world. It’s a low cost way to grow your business and take it to levels you would have thought weren’t possible before. While they do take some time to prepare, it will be worth it in the end.

Guest Post – Internet Home Business Idea For a Beginner

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

A beginner looking for an Internet home business may think it’s an impossible task. The question of what to do and how to start often comes to mind. In my experience, my home business idea came about in a different, but a common way and it kind of fell into my lap.

You see, I started the same way many inexperienced people did. I thought I found a way to work from home through an honest business opportunity. It was not. Through my search, I found there were real work at home jobs where you would get paid by the hour and have set hours. There were loads of different ways to make money online from home and in an honest way. That’s how WorkAtHomeSpace.com was born and it became my home business.

If you’re new to the online home business venture, here is a good starter idea to explore.

“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” Confucius

Find your passion, utilize your skills and training, know your strengths and create a home business for you. That part is easy. Now you have to bring it to life and it’s really not that difficult. Just take it one step at a time.

Homemade Products – You can set up shop at Etsy.com. Create an account and upload your listed items to your Etsy shop. You don’t have to worry about learning HTML or creating a website because it’s done for you.

Digital Products – If you don’t have a website, you can use Clickbank.com or PayDotCom.com. If you have a website, you can use E-junkie.com, a shopping cart for your digital and tangible products. It’s much easier for you to control and your customers can get their products immediately after paying.

If you’re selling a digital product or offering your services, you should consider having your own website. Buying a domain name and self-hosting is very affordable. Hosting companies like Hostgator.com offer a free site builder and free website templates in a variety of categories and they are very professional looking. You can then use their many software they offer like chat, forums, content management system and e-commerce systems.

You can also easily and quickly install WordPress as your site’s platform and there are many plugins you can choose to implement. Once you get the hang of WordPress and how to use it, it’s really quite simple and if you have problems, there are a lot of free tutorials.

You can also use your website to sell advertising space, sell your own digital products, become an affiliate marketer by helping others sell their digital products and use Google AdSense, Amazon or other programs to earn more revenue.

Once you have established your first Internet home business and you’re earning a good income, you can diversify by pursuing your other interests to complement or expand your online business into different niches.

WAHM Resources: Fiverr

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

As a business owner and a WAHM you may find it’s hard to do things for your business when your money needs to go to your family and to pay the bills. But if you don’t do things for your business you won’t grow and that’s not good either.

I ran across a site the other day that may just be able to help you. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for someone to do something for you or if you offer a product or service that you can place on this site, it will work.

The site is called Fiverr and everything on it is $5. You’ll find products and services of all kinds on this site. If you offer a product or service that you could do for $5 you can list it on here as well.

Right now you’ll find a person willing to hand out 25 of your flyers in the Dallas area for $5. There is a person that will mention your website, business, etc up to 45 seconds on his live radio show for $5 and there is a person willing to draw a cartoon of a picture you send for $5.

This is a great resource site for anything you may be looking for and for $5 it’s sure to fit in with your budget. Click here to visit the Fiverr site to see what you can find or to see if you can list your items for others to purchase.

WAHM Resource: Coupon Site to Save You Money

Sunday, March 13th, 2011

As a WAHM you know how important it is to save money whenever possible. When you do this, you’ll be able to live comfortably and have the ability to continue to stay at home. There are a lot of resources out there to help you make this happen, so the best thing to do is search to see what you find and then use them as much as possible.

A lot of communities have 2nd hand stores that are perfect for clothing. Shopping garage sales during the summer is another way to purchase clothing. If you have multiple children, boxing up clothes that are outgrown is another way to save money on clothes.

The one resource that I have found very helpful is coupon sites. The one I use the most is www.afullcup.com. I have the ability to search for coupons that are for things on my grocery list. I create a shopping list for meals based on what we want to have and things we have at home. Then I go to that site and print coupons based on those things. Coupons are a great way to save money on things you need to purchase so you have food to eat.

This website is very valuable to WAHM’s as it gives you the ability to save a lot of money. Money you can spend on other bills so you can continue to work from home and support your family. If you use this coupon site or any others, please share this information with us.

Guest Post: Three Tools Every Work at Home Mom Needs

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

Do you have those days where you feel like you haven’t made any steps in the right direction? Or worse yet, you’ve worked all day juggling your family and business but you aren’t even sure what direction you’re moving?

Get out of that stuck, frustrated place with these three key tools every work at home mom needs: her mission, her goals, and her plan.

Mission

What’s your personal mission? At the risk of sounding like a corporate team-building brochure or church-planting book, you’ve got to have a mission statement!

If you had to sum up in one sentence your mission as a mother, how would you do it? How would you define your mission for yourself as an entrepreneur?

When you clearly define your mission in different areas of your life it will make all of the little decisions easier. Keeping that big picture in mind is the key to creating productive days.

Goals

Once you know your mission, the next tool you need to have is your goals. Define both short-term and long-term goals.

Short-term goals will help you to identify your next action step and move forward consistently. By setting short-term goals you’re able to celebrate successes and stay motivated.

Long-term goals will help you pull yourself through short-term failures by reminding you of the big picture.

Plan

How do you get to your goals? With a plan! Each goal you want to achieve can be reached by breaking it down into little steps to take action on.

With these three tools working together, your plans will help you achieve your goals, and your goals will help you focus on your mission — success!

“Have the end in mind and every day make sure your working towards it.” -Ryan Allis
