What Else Can You Do with Your Articles?

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

I love, love, love article marketing for its ability to help me get new subscribers, more traffic, and visibility with my audience.

But don’t think you’re done with your article once it’s been submitted and published somewhere. Here’s a list of 9 ways you can create another revenue stream with that article by turning it into a paid product.

(If you want some help writing articles and turning them into paid info products, be sure you enter the Saving Summer Giveaway tonight! Tomorrow’s draw is for a teleseminar course that will help you do just that.)

Here are my nine ideas for turning articles into info products… but there are many more too.

Turn it into an ebook or special report
Use it for a teleseminars.
Can you turn it into an ecourse?
It could be the basis for any kind of training course
The beginning of a coaching program
Turn it into an audio recording
Add it to a paid membership site
Add more information and detail and add it to a paid newsletter.
Create your own Private Label Rights products to sell.

What else can you think of?

When Someone Steals Your Online Articles

Monday, June 29th, 2009

I’m feeling a little annoyed. Last week, I spent quite a bit of time writing a new article I was really excited about. Today I checked my stats and saw it’s already pulling some traffic and gaining some new subscribers for me. I thought… how cool is that!

Then I did a quick Google search to see if it had been reprinted anywhere. (If you want to do your own search like this, type the title or a few sentences from your article into Google. Be sure to put quotes like these ” around your search terms.)It hadbeen… and to my dismay, one publisher had liked the article so much they took it for their own. My name is nowhere to be found, and it looks like it’s their own stuff.

If this hasn’t happened to you yet, it will soon. And when it does, you can find a lot of information here about how to handle the situation.

There was a time when I would get up in arms about my content being stolen, and sometimes I still do. But in this particular instance, I’m going to let it go.

Here’s why:

1. The “blogger” (and I use that term loosely) hasn’t even identified himself on his blog. He cares so little for his reputation he doesn’t bother to tell others who he is. With some digging, I could probably find some way to contact him, but I doubt he’ll care.

2. Yes, I’m missing out on a backlink, but I’m pretty sure I can do without a backlink from that particular site.

3. I have bigger fish to fry. If I’m going to spend my time after anyone for stealing my content, I’ll save it for the big sites who leave out my link and my bio. Those are the ones I really need. And I’d rather use what time I do have to write my next article.

4. I can accept that some content theft is a cost of doing business. In my university days, I worked at the neighborhood 7-11. When we did the month-end numbers, there was always an expected loss. As long as the loss was within reason, we let it go.

And that’s what you’ll have to decide for yourself – which content stealers are worth going after, and which are better to just forget about.

How to Monetize Your Article Writing

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

There’s a Canadian TV reality TV series called Dragon’s Den where entrepreneurs pitch 5 multimillionaires for the startup capital they need. My hubby’s been watching it. He finds it pretty entertaining, and likes to tell me about it.

Apparently, in the last episode, one entrepreneur was doing pretty well until the panel asked him how he planned to monetize his idea. He hadn’t thought of that.

So much for that great idea!

But I think we entrepreneurs often aren’t clear on how to monetize our great ideas. For example, how do you monetize article writing?

Yeah, I know you’re getting traffic to your website and subscribers to your list. That’s awesome! But, could you be doing more? Like…

  • Writing review articles of affiliate products and creating a residual income
  • Publishing articles on your own site with adsense ads
  • Compiling your articles into an ebook and selling it.

Those are just a couple of ideas… How do YOU make money with the articles you write?

Have you been challenged lately?

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Have you participated in an article writing challenge lately?

If not, you’re really missing out. :) I did one over the summer, and wow!

So, I didn’t meet my goal (90 articles in 90 days).¬† I definitely pushed myself to create good content even when I didn’t feel like it, and I developed some strong article writing habits.

We have a holiday article marketing challenge going on the WAHM Articles Forum right now. It’s been really exciting to see people who were at first reluctant to participate discover they really can write good articles consistently when they put their minds to it!

There are some great prizes too – almost $300 worth to give away.

If you’re looking for a little article marketing motivation, I hope you’ll join us too. You still have one month to write five articles (for five contest entries) or ten articles (for ten entries). Here’s the link for more info and how to join.

But the REAL winners will be your readers, when they discover that YOU can help them meet their goals over the holidays.

Can Article Marketing Help You Survive a Recession?

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

Tantalizing title, isn’t it?

If you want to learn more, I would love it if you joined me tomorrow at Moms United in Business (MUIB) where I’m leading a chat on exactly that. :)

I discovered MUIB a few months ago. There are so many social networks around these days, that I have to be picky about which ones I choose to join. But I knew this was one I had to be part of when I read the profile of founder Jenn Rogers.

Passion and drive? Prayer and miracles?

Those are powerful words that are tossed about far too casually for my taste. But from the time I’ve spent at MUIB, I’ve seen that Jenn truly lives what she believes. And MUIB is a beautiful reflection of her.

There’s a small fee to join, but it’s well worth it to be part of this amazing group. And the price is going up soon, so you really should head over there now if you want to become a member.

And if you join before 8 pm ET tomorrow, it would be AWESOME to see you at my chat! I even have a door prize to give away. ;)

Thanksgiving Surprises for Everyone at WAHM Articles

Monday, October 13th, 2008

I’ve been celebrating the Canadian Thanksgiving all weekend.¬† After two straight days of turkey dinners, and family get-togethers, I’m looking forward to a quiet day with my family. We don’t have any plans for today, except to go to Dairy Queen so Cassidy can try their Pumpkin Pie Blizzard. :) I’m sticking with the Brownie Batter Blizzard myself.

But I did want to share some Thanksgiving good wishes with all the wonderful people over at the WAHM Articles Forum. We’ve been chatting about article marketing, fielding article writing questions, and – mostly – learning from each other.¬† It’s an awesome place to be!

Here are my two Thanksgiving surprises. I think you’ll really like them!

Thanksgiving Bonus #1

We have a contest going on right now, where members can win prizes for writing holiday themed articles.¬† There’s been a lot of interest, and the prizes are really great.

But, to say a special thank you to everyone who’s joined the forum so far, I’m giving all forum members one entry into the prize draw at the end of the challenge. You don’t have to do anything, just become a member before midnight October 15 (MT) and you’ll have a chance to win!

If you do decide to take the challenge, you’ll now get 10 additional entries when you’re done writing 10 holiday themed articles.

Does writing 10 articles sound like too far a stretch for you?

Well, I want it to be fun as well as challenging. Let’s make it a little easier…. if you can only write 5 articles in our holiday article challenge, I’ll give you 5 additional entries in the draw. How does that sound?

You can join the forum here, while it’s still FREE!

Thanksgiving Bonus #2

That’s right, the WAHM Articles Forum is soon becoming a paid forum. I have so much great information to share with everyone there, a paid membership will definitely be a great investment for your business.

But… because it’s Thanksgiving… I have another gift for you.

If you’re a member before we become a paid forum, you’ll get a year’s membership for free! I haven’t decided exactly when we’re switching over. I am known for doing things on a whim… so you’ll want to get your free membership soon, while you still can!

Have a happy Thanksgiving, and I hope to see you in the forum!

I’ve been promising

Does Article Marketing Really Work? You Bet!

Monday, October 13th, 2008

Every once in a while, someone asks me if article marketing still works. If you’ve been wondering that yourself, I have some great news for you today. You bet it does!

A few months ago, I interviewed one of the WAHM Articles authors, Michelle Shaeffer of http://www.thesmallbusinessmuse.com

She had started an article marketing experiment

Recently, I followed up with Michelle to find out how her experiment had gone, and what she had learned about article marketing. This is what she told me:

After a few months of comparing traffic and subscription rates I found that the traffic I received from my articles came with more average page views per visit and a higher subscription rate to my newsletter.  In fact, the subscription rate for visitors from articles was double that of the general traffic to my site!  About 40% of visitors who read one of my articles first and clicked through to my website signed up for my newsletter.

Two things I found helped boost that rate (in addition to writing and submitting the articles to directories, of course!) were:

1) Write articles that are closely tied to the free ecourse I offer as a gift to subscribers and the topics I focus on in my newsletter.  During a month I submitted articles on a slightly different topic subscription rates were lower.

2) I’ve added my subscribe box to every page with an image of the free ecourse, and in a pop over with a testimonial about the newsletter from a subscriber.

Thanks for providing a quality article directory for us to share our articles through at WAHMArticles.com!

How Article Writing Can Help You Ride Out a Recession

Friday, October 10th, 2008

It’s been in the works for a while, but I just finished it this morning. Here’s the press release announcing the Holiday Article Marketing Challenge in our forum. I like to write press releases that educate the public, so you’ll find some encouraging stats in there too… just in case you’re still wondering if article marketing really works.

Here’s a link to the news release. Leave a comment if you like!

Need a Little Inspiration?

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

Yesterday on Twitter, I asked my followers what they read for inspiration. And true to form, they came through for me. (My twitter followers are the best! :) )

Kate Kerans, a fellow Virtual Assistant, sent me a link to some articles that inspired her.

I think you’ll find them inspiring too. Enjoy!

Oh, and if you want to follow me on Twitter too, I’ll follow you right back! Here’s my link.

I’m the Gal with the Hammer

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

One of the blogs I try to read regularly is Seth Godin’s. (Hey, wasn’t I just talking about reading inspiring content? He’s one of my favorites. )

Recently, he posted about the old adage:”for someone with a hammer, everything looks like a nail.”

Which can be bad… or good, as Seth points out. If you actually need a hammer.

When I read his post, I realized that I’m a gal with a hammer. Mine’s called Article Marketing.¬† It seems that a whole lot of problems that online business owners face can be fixed by my trusty tool.

What problem are you facing in business right now? Maybe…

No one knows about you.

You don’t have any clients.

You don’t have enough clients.

You want to create a passive income.

No one understands how you can help them.

You don’t have enough website traffic/ blog readers/ newsletter subscribers.

No matter. Article marketing can fix it all!

And I’m just the gal to do it. :)

Give me a shout, or post a comment below, and we’ll talk. :)
