When you decide to join a gym, what are your reasons for joining? Is it because someone told you that you should lose weight or because you want to lose weight? Is it because you are friends with someone that has a better body than you or because you desire to have a better body? These answers may seem like they are the same, but in reality, they are not. One answer means you are doing it for someone else and the other means you are doing it for you! Six months ago, I joined a gym. This wasn’t the first gym that I had ever been a member of. The others times I joined was because someone said I should or because “She looks better than me”. I went occasionally, at best. I had no motivation to be there and because of that, I had wasted a lot of money. In April of 2011, I decided that the only way I was going to get the body that I wanted was to stop wishing and start working. Sitting in front of a TV or computer screen wishing I looked like her was getting me no where. After about a month, I started to notice a difference in how my clothes were fitting! It was very exciting, but no one else seemed to notice. That was very frustrating! I felt like it was a lost cause. Finally, several months later, my husband told me that I was looking really good!! That made my day! Just this week, I have had at least four people comment on the way I look. A friend of mine just opened a store that sells fitness, dance and gymnastics apparel, and she wants me to “model” her clothes for her website! Six months ago, I would have told her no, but now that I see that my hard work and dedication is paying off, I am very excited to do this for her! On a side note, I have found that my favorite time to go to the gym is when I have had a bad day. The gym equipment doesn’t mind if you get rid of your aggression on it! You will never hear it say “Don’t take your bad day out on me!” Obviously, that is not the only time I go, but I find myself craving the gym when the day didn’t go quite the way I had planned it to. Whenever you decide to go, do it for yourself, and no one else. You will find it to be much more rewarding then going to please someone else!
