As a work-at-home mom, your wardrobe may vary significantly from the corporate suits and business attire of the traditional working woman. You have a lot more freedom to be comfortable and casual without wearing 3-inch heels or pencil skirts. However, that does not mean that you should stay in your pajamas all day either. One thing that makes a business woman successful, is how she feels about her image. No matter how good those pajamas feel at two o'clock in the afternoon, there is nothing professional about them. Finding a way to be a casual work-at-home mom, while still feeling at least slightly professional in your attire is a trick that few women know how to achieve. Check out the ideas and tricks below to find the perfect balance between casual and professional attire for work-at-home moms. Be Realistic If you are caring for small children during the day, a business suit is just not going to work. While it may make you feel professional to have it on before you leave your bedroom, when your toddler smears jelly on your linen skirt ten minutes later, you will be feeling anything but. Be realistic about what you have to do during the day and who you have to take care of. If you have small children, chances are that you will be playing on the floor a lot, bending over to pick them up and chasing after them as they toddle around. Super tight skirts, low cut blouses and heels are not realistic wardrobe choices for you at that point. Instead, opt for a longer, flowing skirt, a scoop neck tee and a pair of comfortable ballet flats. By being realistic about what you have to do and who you have to do it for, you can quickly eliminate items in your wardrobe that will not allow you to meet those needs. Comfort vs. Too Casual Every mom wants to be the well put together mother who always looks like a million dollars and has a figure that looks like she never had children. Realistically, very few women can actually achieve this look. The challenge then becomes finding clothes that fit properly, are comfortable and casual without making you look like you just rolled out of bed. Thankfully, many large retailers have recognized that women need a simplified wardrobe. For the work-at-home mom, this may mean a couple of pairs of casual, yet fitted pants, a long skirt and a short skirt, and a sheath dress that is both stylish and comfortable. By filling your wardrobe with these simple items that coordinate with each another, getting dressed in the morning to look prepared and professional can happen. Choose a neutral brown or black for the basic pieces and accent them with colorful tops and jewelry or scarves. You will not only look more professional, but you will feel it as well. Being a work-at-home mom places a woman in situation where she is torn between the responsibilities of being a wife and mother all day, while also trying to manage a business and career. While it is a wonderful blessing to be a work-at-home mom, it also means that you have to take the time to take care of yourself and your own needs. One of those needs is to be professional while working and to feel comfortable about the clothes you are in.
