Pointers On Writing Content For Booklet Printing

By: Janice Jenkins

The style and language of your content for booklet printing is crucial for its success. Unlike catalog printing which is primarily focused on images, booklet printing requires a great deal of attention with its text content. Images can help in a color booklet but it should not overwhelm it like catalog printing does. This is because booklets deal with information and the fastest and most efficient way to convey it. So if you are writing for booklet printing, there are several pointers that you should know. Below are a few of these pointers to help you out.

Research is mandatory
The content of a booklet should be true and detailed. Hence before any actual writing should be done for your booklet you must research, and research thoroughly. If your booklet is going to be a training manual for example, then you should know about all the aspects that involves that training. It is a good idea to consult some related literature and even acquire actual examples of other booklets that is related to your own. Use the information you garnered as a basis for your writing. Collect your research and organize them by topic or by importance. Also, besides the actual information that you gained, take note of how they present this information. What writing styles do they use? Keep this information for later since this might also be useful.

Outline your key topics
Once you have the research that you need, it is a good idea to outline your topics before writing. By making a rough outline of topics and subtopics, you can manage the flow of information in your booklet printing. See the flow of arguments and look if there are transitions or segues that may be needed. It is also at this time that you may see some holes in your information and you may want to research more if needed. Once you have a workable outline you are ready to start writing.

Use headlines or sub headings
The good thing about outlines is they can be the basis for your headlines and sub headings. Headings are a good way to organize a booklet. People browse through booklets instead of reading them thoroughly. They usually focus on the information that they want to get. Headings make it an easier job for them to do this. They can spot on to certain keywords and move in to the section that most concerns them. This makes your booklet more effective, and minimizes the boredom that people might experience if they had to look for the information without headings.

Use the appropriate language and style
Now, for the writing itself, it is a good idea to fit the language and style of your target audience to your writing. Above, we told you about taking notes on the style and language of other related literature right? Those notes can help you find the right language and style to use when writing for your booklet. People respond more to text that they feel they can relate to. If the text is too technical or hard to understand, then your booklet will not be as effective. If however, your booklets are written in the language of your audience, then understanding comes quickly with all the benefits that involves. People will be more interested in your booklet and they won't have second thoughts in tossing it out the window.

That should help you out in writing for your custom booklet. Keep your writing truthful, detailed, well organized and easily understood by keeping to these pointers. It should lead you to making a decent and well made booklet, perfect to be printed.
