Amongst your makeup you will probably have a load of different brushes for all sorts of applications. The aim of this article is to give you some tips and advice on how to keep them clean.

The question is, why is it important to keep your makeup brushes clean? All they do is go from your makeup bag to you make up to your face and back again. Basically your makeup brushes will pick up all sorts of dirt and bacteria on this journey. If you do not keep them clean this dirt and bacteria will get transferred to your face. This in turn can lead to all sorts of things including spots and blemishes.

So you can see that keeping your makeup brushes clean is vitally important. If you wear makeup every day we would recommend cleaning your brushes and your makeup bag at least once a week to ensure everything is kept as clean as possible.

The first thing to do when cleaning your brushes is to hold them under running warm water. You should make sure you open them us and the water gets throughout the brush. You can then use a very small amount of shampoo to clean them.

Apply the shampoo to the bristles and gently massage them to get a lather. Make sure you massage the bristles thoroughly to ensure that the shampoo gets deep inside and covers all of the bristles of your brush.

You then need to rinse out all of the shampoo you have applied. Hold the brushes under the running water. You will notice that the water is coloured by the colour of your makeup. It is important to keep the brushes under the water until it runs clear. Then you know that you have removed all of the old makeup from the brushes. Also check and make sure you have removed all of the shampoo.

Now that your brushes are clean you need to allow them to dry. It is best to allow them to air dry. However if you need to get them dry quickly it might be a good idea to lie them on top of a radiator to speed the process up.

When cleaning your brushes it is important to make sure you also keep your makeup bag clean. Most makeup bags will have a waterproof inside but you might not want to hold them under a tap. We would recommend taking a damp towel and running it around the inside. If you apply a small amount of shampoo to the towel and use this to clean off any makeup that appears on the inside. Make sure you remove the shampoo using a clean towel until there is no makeup on the inside.

This is a very important routine to go through, keeping you makeup equipment as clean as possible will ensure you keep a high level of hygiene. In the interests of keep the skin on your face as protected as possible it is also important to keep your makeup as fresh as possible. We would recommend keeping track of how old your makeup is. It is important to try and through away makeup that you have had for 3 months or longer. This again will help to prevent bacteria being transferred to your face.
