Have you ever heard someone say “Work should always be serious. There are deadlines to be met, reports that have to go out and you only have 8 hours to get it all done.”? Now, any other month except October, I would agree with that statement, but when Halloween rolls around, it’s nice to have a little fun for once. Here are a few ideas for Halloween Fun at Work. “You’ve been “Boo’d” It is sort of a trick or treat….in reverse. Send someone a “Boo bag”. You can put lotion, a Halloween candle or any other Halloween item and a bunch of candy in it. Then add the following note in it: How to Boo! This treat is for you. We hope you enjoy. The idea is simple. One we hope you will employ. You pass “Boo” along to 4 other people. Along with any kind of Halloween favors. If we all do our part, And spread good cheer, By Halloween night it will be very clear, We’re a friendly bunch, We like to have fun. So please do your part And keep “Boo” on the run! You can be creative and add a picture or change the font and color to the note. Anonymously send it out to 4 people in your office. You can also send them out to people in your neighborhood if you are a “Work at Home Mom”. Pumpkin Carving Contest Each department can buy their own pumpkin. Pick a day and take a couple of hours away from work to have some holiday fun. You can find patterns that you can print for free at bhg.com/holidays/Halloween/pumpkin-carving/pumpkin-carving-ideas/. If you have an artist in your department, you can also paint our pumpkin. This won’t be quite as messy as carving it. When all departments are done, walk around looking at the pumpkins and place your vote. The boss will choose the prize. You might even get an extra hour for lunch, or an afternoon off. Decorate your Office I went to the bank in the town I live in a couple of years ago. They had a contest to see which department had the best decorations. One department had a “coffin” leaning up against the wall, and the employees took turns standing in it. When people walked by, they would reach out and grab them, or they would jump out of it to scare the unlucky “victim”. It was a lot of fun to see the reaction on people’s faces. Be sure to have a bowl of candy available for people to snack on as they walk around looking at all the decorations. Work doesn’t always have to be serious. Studies show employees will be more dedicated and will enjoy their job if they have fun every once in a while. Halloween is a fun holiday, and just because you are an adult and you have to have a job doesn’t mean that you can’t have some fun. Break out of the day in and day out mold for one day and have a little fun while you are at work.
