When you opened up for business, you had the hopes and dreams of making money. The only way to do this is to attract people to your site. These people are called your target market. Target market is the group of people that are interested in what you offer. For example, if you sell baby clothes, your target market will not be teenagers. Your target market will be mom’s or soon to be mom’s. There are a number of ways you can find your target market both online and offline. This article will focus on the strategies that will help you find them online. • Message boards Message boards are a great place for people to hang out. They learn things from others that are on the boards, they can ask questions, and more. When you hang out on these boards, you will have the opportunity to answer questions, share valuable tips, and place articles that you have written that will help them out. You don’t want to be overpowering with your tips and articles, but a little bit is ok. • Groups There are many thousands of MSN, Yahoo, and Google groups that you can be apart of. Do searches on your target market to find where they are at and join those groups. Make sure you follow the rules of the board so you are not asked to leave due to SPAM. You can share your tips, advice, and more with the members of these groups. • Networks Join networking groups and find your target market and become friends with them. Some network sites would be twitter.com and facebook.com. Twitter is like a live messaging system that allows you to see messages as soon as they are submitted. Facebook has groups you can join and you can make posts on the home pages of your friends. This is a great way to keep your business in front of your target market by encouraging them, congratulating them when something exciting happens, and help them when they are asking questions. • Associations There are associations and groups that you can become a part of and put yourself and your business smack dab in the middle of your target market. When you build trust and friendships with people, they will feel better about purchasing from you and they will also feel comfortable referring others to you as well. Making yourself known is crucial when you own a business. Without customers or clients you don’t make money. If you don’t make money you might as well not be in business. When you put yourself in front of your target market and you help them solve problems or show them how to avoid problems, they will more than likely purchase from you. So go out there and show your target market that you are there for them and you want them to be successful. Help your target market in any way you can so they know you care. When you do this, they will remember it for months and years to come.
