Do you have a website and are planning on adding a lot of content? When we say a lot of content we are talking about something that would double or treble the size of your website. If this is the case then this article may be of interest to you. There are many reasons why your website may increase rapidly. For example you may be selling products and get the right to distribute products from a new supplier. This might give you access to their whole catalogue which could add a large number of pages to your website. However you may be looking to add pages purely to get higher search engine rankings and to appear high for some long tail phrases. If this is the case then the information below will be particularly relevant to you. When adding content you need to consider the effect it will have on your website from your user’s point of view and also what the search engines will think. I have heard a rumour that Google have been known to add websites that increase rapidly to their sandbox. This could affect your search engine rankings as Google inspect your website more closely. However there is no real evidence that Google does this and it is probably just a rumour designed to scare website owners. Problems with Adding Content There are a few problems that you might encounter by adding a lot of content and below we have the main ones that we think you should consider: 1. You might find the content you add will be poor. This will result in your users having a poor experience on your website. This is partly caused by the fact that you will be adding a lot of information in a short space of time and not having the time to write it properly. You may find that you then end up replicating a lot of content on different pages making your pages dull and uninteresting. 2. Your new pages won’t have any links. As you have added loads of pages at the same time you may find a lot of the pages have very little value and so other websites won’t link to them. Another reason for this is that many people won’t find your new content and won’t take the time to look though your masses of pages in order to see if you have something useful to say. 3. Search engines will not like lots of similar pages. You will find that if your pages do not have much to say then the search engines might not index them. You need to think of search engines like people and if there is replication of content then they will get bored and simply won’t include all your pages anyway. Solutions for Adding Content There are a few things you can do to overcome the above problems and below are our top tips: 1. Add your pages more slowly. You might find the best thing to do is to add your content bit by bit which will give you the opportunity to add weight to it. By doing this you will keep the interest of your users and the search engines. 2. Consider using freelance writers for your site to add more interest to your pages. If you get your pages written by different people then you will find they have a different style and different content. This will enable you to keep all parties interested in your website.
