Can your Business Function without you Leading the Way?

Monday, February 27th, 2012

This last week was a rough one for me. I cam down with a severe case of strep. The doctor said it was the worst case she’d seen in a long time. I was down basically from Wednesday to Saturday which means I didn’t get anything done during that time.

I’ll tell you, I’m so glad my business can function without me. This is one of the reasons why I moved out of the direct sales business. I was struggling in that type of business anyway and when I would find I couldn’t work it for one reason or another I was losing money. Now that’s not to say others don’t make money from direct sales, because there are certain those that can make it happen. It just wasn’t for me.

To me a business has the ability to function on it’s own when you don’t have to do everything and people still come to your site and do business with you. That’s how the WAHM-Articles directory works. People continue to visit the directory to read articles, submit articles, and pay for advertising even though I’m not around to market it and introduce it to others. Now that’s my kind of business!

What is your idea of a business that has the ability to function without you? We’d love to hear from you. Please share your thoughts and opinions in the comments below.

Do you Think a Change is Needed?

Monday, February 20th, 2012

In late December or early January goals are created and a lot of thinking is going on when it comes to your business. You may be thinking about the services or products you offer and if you should keep them or let them go.

While all of that thinking is going on, it’s also to think about other things in your business such as autoresponders and newsletters. You need to think about the current way you’re doing things and you need to check to see if they’re working. If they’re not you need to see what it would take to make a change for the better.

Change can be scary, but you need to remember what the outcome will be once you’ve made the change. Think of this change like road construction. While the workers may strip away the road and take it down to dirt and then rebuild the road with new materials, the ultimate outcome is positive when the road is brought back for people to use. Your business can be the same way if you do construction to remove the things you don’t need or want to offer anymore.

Take some time this week to look at your business to see if you can make changes that will help you be better and to help your clients or customers to be better off as well. Think about the services or products you offer that aren’t being used or that you don’t like to offer. Consider removing them so you have the ability to either add new ones or give you time to do more of what you enjoy.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Monday, February 13th, 2012

Valentine’s Day is tomorrow and it’s a very special day for couples. It’s a time to show the ones we love the most how much we care for them. It’s the perfect time to have a romantic dinner and spend time together alone as a couple.

This is something that seems to be hard to do when you own a business or have children, so it’s crucial to find a way. It’s not going to hurt your business to take a day off and your children will be fine if you leave them with a sitter or with their grandparents for a few hours or a day.

Family time is very important, but there are times when we forget about that. If you find you’re in this situation you need to find a way to spend time with your family every day. If you struggle to make this happen, try adding it to your calendar and your to-do list. If you follow your calendar and your to-do list you’ll find family time will happen. Once this happens you’ll realize taking a day off now and then won’t hurt. You’ll see you’ll enjoy life more and you’ll have a better relationship with your spouse.

Here’s to a Happy Valentine’s Day!

What do you use to Supplement your Income?

Monday, February 6th, 2012

I will tell you I’m so thankful for my family and the fact that I have a business that can handle me taking a few days off. I had a cold and a sinus infection last week and then over the weekend I came down with a migraine that lasted 24 hours. Needless to say I’m thankful for my family and a business that won’t crash after a few days off.

There are a number of businesses that are this way, but what about the ones that aren’t that way? When you must earn your income based on the sales you have, it makes it tough when you’re sick. You may love working that business, but it’s a struggle when you don’t have the ability to make the sales like you need to.

So what are your options for this business you love to run? One way is to use affiliate marketing and market products or services that are in line with your market is one way to make additional money. Another way is to save the money that’s over what you need to pay your bills. That will help if the time comes where you don’t have the ability to make money.

What do you do if you find you can’t make money with your business due to an illness or other reasons? Please share what you use to help supplement your income so you don’t struggle if you were to become ill or need to take time off.

Are your Goals a Struggle for You?

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

When you set your goals at the beginning of the year, more than likely you created a plan that told you exactly what to do each day to reach those goals. That plan puts everything into place and you know step by step what needs to be done so your goals can be reached by the date you set.

If you’re anything like me, life gets in the way and that means your goals can get pushed aside so you can focus on what needs to be done. That has happened to me this month. I started out really well and then as the month went on, things started to get busy as school was back in session, and basketball started for my youngest son.

Once this happens you may find it’s harder to get back into the swing of working, but you must make it happen or you’ll find you’re falling further and further behind and that makes it really hard to get caught you again. That’s not to say you won’t, but it will be more difficult than it would be if you only let it go for a few days or a week.

If you find you’re in this situation, it’s time to stand strong, focus on what needs to happen, and get your tasks completed. You may need to get up early or stay up late so you have a little extra time, but it’ll happen when you put it in your mind that it MUST happen.

If you need some help with your goals, make a post below and we’ll encourage you and help you where we can.

To your Success,

It’s all about the “Why”

Monday, January 16th, 2012

Whether you’re just starting out in your business or you’ve been working it for a time now, it’s important to know what your “why” is at all times. Your why is the reason you work your business. You don’t work it, just to work it. You work it because of something in your life like your children or because you need a new car or want to buy a new home.

No matter what it is, you need to define your why. Once you have it in place, it’s important to regularly think about the why and make sure it’s still in line with what’s going on in your life. Things change and that needs to change as well. If you reach your why you need to change it to something else so you have the ability to continue working your business with something to look forward too.

Although it may look like your why is a goal, really it’s different in a lot of ways. The perfect example of this would be if your goal is to have enough money to take your family to Hawaii for vacation. To write your goals around your why, you’d want to say your main goal is to increase your income. You’d need to set a specific amount such as $1000 or $1500 a month or whatever it is that would allow you to save the money you need and still have enough to pay the bills.

It’s important to have your why in place and it’s also important to have a visual picture of it printed and in a location where you’ll see it regularly. When you can see it on a daily basis you’ll remember what it is and why you are working your business. Once you reach your why you need to do some thinking and come up with a different one. When you continually have a why in place you’ll always know what you’re working for and you’ll have the need and desire to make it happen.

Please make sure you share your why with us in the comments below. Also tell us why you work so hard every day to reach that why.

Tips for Creating New Goals for 2012

Monday, December 26th, 2011

I hope you had a Merry Christmas. I know we did. We had a number of gifts I was excited about giving. It was exciting to see the surprised faces when the boys and Kevin opened their presents. It was priceless to say the least.

Now that Christmas is over, the New Year is six days away and it’s the perfect time to start planning your goals for the New Year. Take the time to sit down and brainstorm on the current year and the New Year to come.

When you’re trying to come up with your goals it’s a good idea to look at the ones you’ve created for the current year. That will help you to know what you’re capable of achieving, but it will also help you to know what’s too much or if your goal was too high or you had too many to achieve.

There are several ways to create your goals. Each way has it’s own advantages and disadvantages. Here is an article that will help you to use a map method to set goals for the New Year.

Setting Goals for the New Year

Monday, December 19th, 2011

The end of the year is almost here. That can be pretty scary if you think about it, but that means you’ll have an entire year to reach success through the new goals you set for your business.

If you want to reach success you must set goals. Goals help you to see ahead so you know what you need to do to step out of the box and reach new levels. If you don’t set them you’ll find your business won’t go anywhere and that means you’ll continue to make the same amount of money and you won’t grow your business.

Setting goals is time consuming, but you’ll feel the reward when you have them written down and you know exactly what you need to do to reach them. You may need to set aside an hour or two so you can brainstorm and decide on all of your goals and how you plan to reach them.

The first thing you need to do is decide what the main goal will be for your business. For example, if your ultimate goal is to increase your income by $100 a week, you need to decide how you plan to reach that goal. You may have several different things you need to do to reach that goal.

Create a map that shows what your ultimate goal is and then write down the mini goals you need to do to accomplish that main goal. Once those goals are set it’s time to decide what you’ll do to reach the mini goals. It’s a good idea to take your goal down to the day. When you do this you’ll know what you need to do every day to reach the mini goals and the ultimate goal in the end.
